Ecological fitness cost associated with the AHAS Trp574Leu mutation in feral Raphanus sativus

چکیده
Gene mutations endowing herbicide resistance may have negative pleiotropic effects on plant fitness. Quantifying these is critical for predicting the evolution of and developing management strategies herbicide-resistant weeds. This study reports acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS) Trp574Leu mutation throughout life cycle feral radish (Raphanus sativus L.). Resistant susceptible phenotypes responded differently to light water treatments in relation germination emergence. Under exposure, resistant phenotype showed higher emergence, but no differences were found seed dormancy, darkness emergence from buried seeds or pods. The delayed reduced seedling relative under rainfed conditions, between not detected irrigated soil. similar growth rates vegetative biomass. However, wheat competition, plants had 36%–46% less total above-ground biomass, 26%–47% per 36%–53% yield than ones, more evident at density. provides a better understanding ecological fitness cost associated with AHAS R. sativus. costs could reduce frequency allele areas untreated AHAS-inhibiting herbicides. Our results suggest that incorporating non-AHAS herbicidal approaches into integrated weed-management programmes maintaining fence lines fields margin as refuges an opportunity minimize reverse evolution.

15 صفحه اولPredicting bacterial fitness cost associated with drug resistance.
OBJECTIVES It has been proposed that antimicrobial resistance could be associated with a fitness cost in bacteria, which is often determined by competition experiments between isogenic strains (wild-type and mutant). However, this conventional approach is time consuming and labour intensive. An alternative method was developed to assess the fitness cost in drug-resistant bacteria. METHODS Tim...
متن کاملAn ecological cost associated with protective symbionts of aphids
Beneficial symbioses are widespread and diverse in the functions they provide to the host ranging from nutrition to protection. However, these partnerships with symbionts can be costly for the host. Such costs, so called "direct costs", arise from a trade-off between allocating resources to symbiosis and other functions such as reproduction or growth. Ecological costs may also exist when symbio...

Objective(s): KRAS proto-oncogene mutation can be considered a diagnostic factor for treating various malignancies. Helicobacter pylori infection, a risk factor for stomach cancer, may cause DNA damage and genetic changes. The aim of the current study was to assess the association of gastric cancer and KRAS mutation, demographic factors, and H. pylori infection.<...
متن کاملA Novel Nonsense mutation in PANK2 Gene in Two Patients with Pantothenate Kinase-Associated Neurodegeneration
Pantothenate kinase- associated neurodegeneration (PKAN) syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by progressive extrapyramidal dysfunction and iron accumulation in the brain and axonal spheroids in the central nervous system. It has been shown that the disorder is caused by mutations in PANK2 gene which codes for a mitochondrial enzyme participating in coenzyme A biosynthe...
